Kindergarten Sports Day

Kindergarten sports day was celebrated on 2 Feb 2018 at the school premises. Sri.Sanjay Mullasseri, Head Cricket Operations, Center for Sports Science, Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, presided over the function as Chief Guest and declared the Sports meet open. He gave a thought provoking and inspiring speech on importance of nurturing the natural talents in sports amongst children along with academic talents. The function started off with an impressive march past by the children, followed by drill and dance performances. Sports events were conducted and children received their prizes from our estemeed chief guest. All the children participated in the event enthusiastically.

Martyrs' Day

On the occassion of Martyrs' Day, the Hindi Department organized a programme as a means of saluting the Martyrdom of the innumerable soldiers who sacrificed their precious lives to free the country from British colonialists. The programme comprised of a skit that depicted scenes from the history of the struggle for Indian Independence and a dance. Starting from Jallianwala Bagh massacre and Non Co-operation movement, students enacted various incidents that led to the formation of HRA, the Hindustan Republic Association, a revolutionary Organisation, its terror attacks and the eventual fall in 1936.
The skit was followed by a Bhangra dance for the song 'Ye desh hain veer jawanon ka' that celebrates the brave soldiers who safeguard our borders round the clock. Visit gallery for full coverage... View Images...

Republic Day Celebrations

Republic Day was celebrated at the school on 26th Jan 2018. Mr. S.Karthik Raj, IRS, Assistant Commissoner, Inland Container Depot(Irungattukkottai) presided over as the Chief Guest, took the Guard of Honour and hoisted the National Flag. He later addressed the gathering and gave an inspiring speech to one and all. Students performed song and dance sequences. Book Fair - 2018

"Books build a staircase to your imagination"
Annual Book Fair 2018 was inaugurated in the school today by our chief guest, Dr.R.Samyuktha, University Librarian, Pondicherry University. Programme was started by a melodious song on Goddess Saraswathi by ASPL,Abhijit. Dr.Samyuktha, chief guest, gave an inspiring speech to the children on importance of book reading. She gave away prizes to the winning teams in a competition conducted on book making. Many publishers are participating in the event enthusiastically with a wide variety of books on display. The bookfair is open to all from 25 Jan 2018 till 27 Jan 2018 between 9 AM and 4.30 PM. View Images...

Ganasangamam 2018 - Community Singing Programme

Ganasangamam is a regular music programme conducted by West Chennai Cluster CBSE schools. This year it was held on 5th Jan 2018, in which 9 students of class VIII participated from our school. Around 140 students from 18 West Cluster Schools took part in the same along with the music teachers. Students sang 10 songs in different languages based on Unity, Patriotism, Festival, Peace and so on. Smt.Vasundhara Rajagopal an eminent carnatic singer was the Chief Guest & Smt. Story Telling Session for Students of Class IV

Ms. Srividya.V is a founder of “story train” in Chennai aiming to encourage oral storytelling in all aspects and segments for engaging, teaching, empowering and entertainment. To motivate reading and to improve reading skills of our students, a session was organized for the students of class IV. She enacted a few stories, guided the students regarding the choice of books for reading and also gave tips for writing stories. The students had a very interactive and informative session. Kindergarten Project Exhibition

Kindergarten celebrated its two day project exhibition on 21st and 22nd December 2017. Mrs.Vidhyavathi, Vice Principal of Vani Vidyalaya Senior Secondary and Junior College inaugurated the project by lighting the kuthuvilakku. The topic of the LKG project was “Basic needs of human being like food, clothing, shelter, occupation, education and transport. Events of the project included rhymes, dance, storytelling which were well appreciated by the chief guest of the day. On 22nd December 2017 UKG project exhibition commenced with the lighting of ceremonial lamp by the chief Mrs.Sarada Narendranath, Primary Head mistress of Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidyashram. The theme “Stories” which included Nature,Fairy Tales, Tenali Raman, Markandeyan, Chicken Licken and Jungle book were enacted by the children in a scintillating manner. 24th International Yoga Festival, Puducherry

The 24th International Yoga Festival was organized by the Puducherry Tourism Department. Sri.R.Venugopal, Yoga Head of our school was invited as guest speaker. He spoke on the topic, "Role of Yoga on Lifestyle Disorders" on 4 Jan 2018.

Camps

Junior Balavihar Camp - 28 students from class IV to VI participated in the camp. Mrs.L.Lakshmi and Mrs.Suchitra accompanied the students Br.Shraddamma, Br.Bharathiamma and Br.Yuvaraj ji guided the students. Students had story telling sessions by brahmacharinis, bhajans, art and craft activities, dance, games, gayathri havan and visited Shiva temple.
Senior Balavihar Camp at Chinmaya Gardens Coimbatore - 19 students along with Mrs.A.Bharathi and Mrs.Velvizhi attended the camp. Children had ice breaking session, stories, games, bhajans, camp fire, yoga session, spiritual session, creativity session, Selfie Bharath, camp song and Gayathri homam Swamini Sharanyaji, Priya amma and Yuvaraj ji were incharge of the camp events. Adyar Cancer Institute Visit

As a part of the CVP activity 10 Students from Class VI were taken to Adyar Cancer Institute on 9th December 2017 to spread awareness about cancer. Students visited the pediatric section and entertained the children over there. They drew pictures, sang bhajans and even narrated some stories for them. Students realized how fortunate they are and felt blessed for being healthy & understood the significance of following healthy lifestyle to help in steering away from these fatal illnesses. Tapovan Jayanti and Geeta Jayanti!

Pujya Gurudev loved all but He had two special loves - the Shrimad Bhagavad Geeta and our Param Guru, Swami Tapovanji Maharaj.
On Geeta Jayanti, we joined the Global Geeta Chanting Yajna held on 30th November 2017, Chapter 12 of the Geeta was recited by students, teachers and parents at 6:00pm. Following the Geeta chanting, the Tapovan Shatkam was chanted thrice.

Amma..Take me to Tirupati

Ms. Bhakthi mathur, famous writer from Hong kong visited our school on 27th November’17 to address the students of Class V. She is a banker by profession and the author of the hugely popular ‘Amma, Tell Me series’. She is also an active member of Chinmaya Mission, Hongkong. Her recent book, “ Amma - Take me to Tirupati” introduces readers to the history of different faiths and their associated monuments. She engaged the students by telling interesting stories and facts connected to Tirupati.
At the end of the session, students expressed their wish to read the book and understand more about the world-famous temple of Lord Tirupati Balaji. This also inspired those, who have not visited the temple to visit and to know more about it.

Innovation Club

The ground work for the brain child of Swami Mitranandaji, ‘Innovation club’ started with an aptitude test for the students of classes VI to X wherein they were asked to identify, describe and illustrate a problem area in the school, solving of which would benefit everyone at large. Students were shortlisted after a second round of personal interview and the key areas that will be focused this year will be ‘Reducing water wastage’ and ‘Cleanliness and slippery floors in first and second floors’.

Social Workshop

Emphasizing on the aspects of teaching methodology in social studies on 18 Nov, conducted by Sahodaya School campus in association with Madhuban Educational Books. The session was conducted by Ms. PadminiSriraman, MA History and Economics, M.Ed ,M.Phil.The workshop was designed to provide insight and understanding regarding the key concepts in social studies.

Karuna Club Teacher Training Programme

The Karuna International club of our school organised a Teachers’ training programme on 15-11-2017. teachers from 6 schools attended the workshop. The workshop was aimed at bringing the teacher community together in contributing to the peaceful co-existence of man and animal on earth. Mr. Paul Bhaskaran, Mr. Dawn Williams Resource Person, Karuna International , Smt. G. Sai Devi,Trans Management Consultant and Mr. Azhagam Perumal Advocate in High court were the guests of honour.

As part of Chinmaya Bal Sevak Programme, our seva students visited CMS Government School (primary - Anganwadi)Arumbakkam on 15 Nov 2017.
Koyambedu Anganwadi Supervisor Mrs.Hemavathi highly appreciated our School for the good support given, not just by donating books but also took a step ahead to mingle and entertain kids.

Hindi Workshop

To know more about the latest trends and methods of teaching Hindi on 28 Oct, conducted by Madhuban Educational Books. The session was conducted by Dr. Pradeep Kumar Jain. Mrs. Reena Sinha & Mrs. K.Radhika from our Hindi Department attended the workshop. The teachers learnt about the latest methods of teaching Hindi by making use of audio visual mediums, internet based resources like You Tube, Information Communication Technology (ICT) methods, and class room based activities like ‘Jigyasa’ which shows the correct use of matras, gender, singular and plural nouns and correct pronunciation.

CL Educate

A career guidance session was conducted by Mr.Vipin from CL Educate for commerce students of XI and XII on 27th October 2017. They are the leading providers of test preparation and training courses for MBA, Civil service, Law, Engineering and GATE. The students were given guidance about the various courses like Law, Design, Mass communication, BBA / BBS / IPM and B.com. The premier colleges offering these courses and about entrance exam conducted by them. The session lasted for about 2 hours ending with an interactive session, where students gained a good knowledge about various courses they could pursue after XII standard and how to prepare for entrance exam. Blood Donation Camp

In association with Lions Club Chennai,we organised a blood donation camp in our school premises on 7th October’ 2017. Students and their parents showed great enthusiasm and participated in large numbers. As an annual feature of the school, the Blood Donation camp helped the students gather a lot of experience and knowledge. It was a memorable experience for the students and they felt proud to be a part of this noble deed.People came forward to donate blood which deepened social awareness among them. Navaratri Celebrations

To instil the values of our Indian culture and tradition in the minds of our younger generation and make them understand the importance of following it, we have been organising Golu on different themes every year. The theme of this year’s Golu was AINDINAI- 5 SPECIES OF LAND and organised it from 20th September’17 to 30th September’17
KURINCHI - Hill & Hilly region.  MULLAI - Jungles and forest region.
MARUTHAM - Plain Lands for Cultivation and those region.
NEYTHAL - Sea shore area.  PAALAI - Desert area.

Karuna Club - Ahimsa Rally

To commemorate the International Day of Non-Violence—the students of the Karuna Club of Chinmaya Vidyalya Sr. Sec. School, Virugambakkam, Chennai, went on a rally on 7 October 2017. The rally was conducted to spread the message of Ahimsa, peace, non-violence and compassion towards all living creatures. Around 160 students from class 7 took part in the rally which covered a distance of 2 km and was lead by a student dressed as Mahatma Gandhi. The students carried attractive and meaningful placards on Peace and Non-violence and shouted slogans to spread the message of Ahimsa. View Images...

47th Annual Sports Meet

47th Annual Sports meet of our Vidyalaya was held at SDAT Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Periamet, Chennai – 84, On 1st September 2017 Shri.V.Gunasekaran M.A Deputy Superintendent of Police, Chennai Central Sub-Division, Chennai Central lit the torch and declared the Sport Meet open at 9.00 a.m. We had the march past by the students of classes 8 to 10 followed by mass drill by the students of class VI. The Chief Guest distributed the prizes for the winners of the Intra-Mural events held at school earlier. Various track events were conducted for the students, parents, teachers and non-teaching staff. Around 3.00 p.m. we had the valedictory function. The Chief Guest of the function was Shri.R. Rajesh, National Champion - Table Tennis Coach – Indian Table Tennis Senior Team. Vinayaka Chaturthi

Vinayaka Chaturthi Pooja was observed in our School Vinayaka Shrine on 24th August. Various abhishekams were performed and our Lord Ganesha was adorned with Silver Kavacham, garland and flowers. Independence Day Celebrations

The 71st Independence Day Celebration and Primary prize distribution function was held in the vidyalaya. Shri K.P.S. Devaraj, Assisstant Commissioner of Police , Modern Control Room,Greater Chennai was the Chief Guest of the day. He hoisted the national flag and also distributed the prizes for Proficiency and 100% attendance for the primary students. Tejasvee of class XII gave an inspiring speech on the topic, ‘India then and India now’ and Amritavarshini of class VIII gave a thought provoking speech in tamil on where we stand after 70 years of Independence. Annual Day

Chinmaya Vidyalaya Senior Secondary School, Virugambakkam , celebrated its 47th Annual Day on Saturday, 5thAugust, 2017. Smt. A.Nirmala, Secretary and Principal, Ethiraj College for Women was the esteemed Chief Guest for the evening. The cultural programme based on the concept of SAPTA (seven) commenced with a scintillating dance in praise of Lord Ganesha followed by the SAPTASWARA, a musical medley. The story behind Thirumala, one of the important hills in SAPTAGIRI, was wonderfully portrayed through a Tamil skit. The importance of SAPTASINDHU was gracefully depicted through a brilliant dance “Namami Gangey”. Thereafter, the students enacted a skit in fluent Sanskrit about Sage Kashyapa, one of the SAPTARISHIS. What followed that was a vibrant depiction of the SEVEN SISTERS, the North-Eastern states of India, through a tableau and a Fan dance, which managed to capture the essence and culture of those states. On the occasion of the Maha Samadhi Day of our Pujya Gurudev, a project was organized on the topic “Bharateeya Vidyaarjanam” (Indian Way of Yearning for Knowledge), ‘The great Indian Odyssey – From Gurukul to Virtual’ on 3rd August,2017. H.H.Swami Sureshananda, Acharya, Chinmaya Mission, Chennai and Brni. Priya Arunachalam Acharya, Chinmaya Mission Tamaraipakkam & Correspondent, Hari Hara Vidyalaya, Tamaraipakam presided over the function. Swamiji spoke about parenting tips and upbringing values. Co-operative store was inaugurated in school with the idea of providing the students necessary stationery items inside the campus. The students manage the transactions of the co-operative store under the supervision of Mrs.R.Bharathi who takes care of placing orders for stationery and settling the accounts. Gurupoornima Celebrations

The festival of Guru Purnima (St Veda Vyasa’s Birthday) was celebrated on 10th July 2017. Classes VI to X participated with intense fervor and enthusiasm, Padhuka pooja was performed by Br.Anand Chaitanyaji, Acharya Chinmaya Mission, Chennai and Br.Sudheer Chaitanyaji, Acharya Chinmaya International Foundation, Ernakulam. Br. Anand Chaitanyaji spoke about the importance of Guru in students’ life. He explained about Guru Parampara and made the students repeat it. Class VII D students visited Chennai Coin Fair held at A.K.R. Mahal, Virugambakkam on 21st July, 2017. They were accompanied by Mrs. Lakshmi Narayan and R. Jayashree. The students got a wonderful opportunity to get a glimpse of some of rare stamps, coins and currency collection. Life Skill Development programme was conducted for class VII by Mr. Satish Chathanath, Founder,Pollen Cubes during life skills period every Saturday . Mathletics

Mathletics, an Inter-School Competition was organized by Mathematics Department. The competitions were for students from class I to XI. Sri.C.Sathiyamoorthy, Principal, Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Taylors Road was the chief guest for the program. The objective was to focus on logical reasoning, analytical thinking and problem solving skills, honing the intrinsic and latent talents in the young minds. The mega event also served as a platform for collaboration and coordination among the students of the participating schools. The Overall Championship was bagged by SBOA School and Junior College, Anna Nagar It was a pleasure and privilege to host 500 budding Mathematicians from 30 venerated schools to participate in “Mathletics”. Earth Day

Earth Day, “Haarita Prithvi” was celebrated. Chief Guest Mr.A.Subramaniyam, Chief Editor, Solar cells, IIT Madras addressed the students about the importance of keeping our Earth green. He presented video which elucidated the various ways in which human activities have caused destruction and ways to conserve them. Doctors from the fields of Homeopathy, Naturopathy and Acupuncture addressing students of class VIII

As a part of INTEGRATED DEVELOPMENT, three doctors from different fields, -Homeopathy, Naturopathy and Acupuncture- were invited to impart HEALTH EDUCATION to the students of VIII Std. The main objective of the event was to create awareness among students about alternative ways of treatment for common ailments. Dr. N. RAJALAKSHMI B.H.M.S., Associate professor,Venkateswara Homeopathic Medical College created awareness among students about and how homeopathy medicine could cure chronic ailments. Dr. R. VIJAYALAKSHMI, Asst. Medical Officer, Yoga & Naturopathy Lifestyle Clinic, Govt Stanley Hospital, addressed the students and suggested some simple home remedies for common ailments. Dr. G.
