Teaching is a noble profession. A teacher plays a major role in moulding the personality of the future generation. And the need of the hour is to ingrain humane values in the children to make this world a better place for everyone. With this idea in mind, a Teacher Training Programme on 'Humane Education' was conducted in Chinmaya Vidyalaya Sr. Sec. School, Virugambakkam on 11th August, 2015.
In the morning session, Mr. C. Appandiaraj, Educational officer at Karuna International, spoke at length about the need to stop cruelty towards animals. He sighted examples where the animals were ill-treated or killed and then used in making of various vanity and food products. He stressed on the need to show compassion towards animals and embrace humane way of life. He also conducted a quiz and gave gifts to teachers as a token of appreciation. Shri Shantilal Nahar, Vice-President Karuna International, the second guest speaker of the day, encouraged all teachers to strive towards being the best teachers. His speech was highly motivating and inspiring indeed. The teachers came up with instances in their life when they were a student and quoted examples of how they were inspired by their teachers. The session was very interactive and lively. Post-lunch, the session was graced by Prof. Ramanathan, Joint Secretary of the Karuna International. He quoted instances from the glorious past of India, where many great kings adopted ahimsa in their lives. Mr. Natarajan, a social worker with RSS and a faculty with Naleya Bharatham, rightly conveyed that teachers affect eternity and no one can tell where their influence stops. Hence, teachers should become the role models to impart humane values to the children. In the final session of the day, Mr. Karthikeyan gave insight into the medicinal properties of the plants that grow in our backyard. | ||||
