Chinmaya Vidyalaya has been working with British Council since 2010 when the school participated in “International School Award” Programme an accreditation scheme that recognizes and celebrates exemplary practices of internationalism in schools. Our school got the British Council Connecting classrooms Grant for the second consecutive year. | ||||
Connecting classrooms is a global education programme for schools, managed by the British Council for schools offering school partnerships to share the best practices with their International counterparts. Chinmaya Vidyalaya Senior Secondary School Virugambakkam and Selly Park Technology College for Girls Birmingham have entered into one such collaborative project creating meaningful cross-cultural relationships between the two schools. Mrs. Lisa Darwood, Ms. Sam Crayton and Mrs. Divya Nambiar from Selly Park had visited Chinmaya Vidyalaya Senior Secondary School in April 2014. The children of Chinmaya Vidyalaya Senior Secondary School presented the foreign visitors with a cultural show showcasing the different aspects of our Indian tradition, like yoga, Bharata Natyam and Carnatic music. Children also presented the guests with collages on Indian heritage,posters on their perceptions of United Kingdom and made origami peace doves with messages of peace to their counterparts at Selly Park Technology Centre , Birmingham. The guests also observed English and Science classes at Chinmaya Vidyalaya Senior Secondary School. | ||||
The Principal Mrs. P. Vijayalakshmi alongwith Mrs. Geetha Venkataraman had been to Selly Park Technology College for Girls Birmingham, UK, on a reciprocal visit from 16/06/14 to 24/06/14. At Birmingham, there was a small presentation on Birmingham and their school, by the children in the assembly. They also enacted a few scenes on different Shakepeare’s plays. The tour around the Birmingham school, and an observation class in Mathematics paved the way towards better understanding of the different teaching strategies followed in UK. | ||||
Ms.Nicola Craig of Selly Park Technology College for Girls, Birmingham UK and Mr.David Parry from Hungerhill school, South Yorkshire visited our school from 15th to 22nd January 2015. Traditional games of both the countries were played by the students. They enjoyed the cultural show, art & craft display of our students. | ||||
Mrs.Uma Sankaranarayanan, our English Teacher alongwith Mrs.Gowrilakshmi Principal, Chinmaya Vidyalaya Anna Nagar and Mrs.Seena, Teacher Chinmaya Vidyalaya Anna Nagar visited Birmingham and Doncaster – UK as a part of the British Council Connecting classroom project. Our Vidyalaya received the grant funded by the U.K. Government for the second year. She had a chance to visit Selly Park Technology College for girls in Birmingham. She took a class for Grade IX in English and also observed an English class. This visit paved way to know about the various teaching and learning strategies followed in UK schools. She also visited Hungerhill School in Dancaster. On the whole the trip provided an enriched learning experience for her. |
