Crossing country borders - India and UK

The British Council connecting classrooms programme made its foray into Chinmaya Vidyalaya Virugambakkam on the 20th and 21st January 2015. It was a platform to interact, demonstrate and share the Indian culture and traditional indoor and outdoor games, art, yoga, dance and music. Miss Nicola Craig (Selly Park Technology Center for Girls Birmingham) and Mr David Parry (Hunger Hill School, South Yorkshire) had their share for two days. The first day was an interactive session with the students of class 8 on the games that they play regularly in school. Nicola and David taught them to play some of their traditional games.
Day two was exuberant and explorative as Indian Indoor games like Pallanguzhi, Aadu Puli Aatam, Five stones, Paramapadam were demonstrated. Outdoor games like Paandi, Kabadi, Uri adi , Pachai Kudirai were the highlights. The invitees enjoyed playing all the games with the students and also learnt the values and significance of each game. The entire school looked like a fair as the students showcased their talents in art, music, craft, dance and yoga. It was definitely an attempt to share the teaching practices and culture between the two countries.
